In a significant achievement in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking, the Mizoram Police seized over 11 kg of crystal methamphetamine (strong and highly addictive drug) with a market value of Rs 34 crore from a Myanmar national and arrested him.
The arrested Mynamar national has been identified as Ropianga (37).
Based on inputs, a team of Aizawl District Special Branch (DSB) conducted a search operation at Zemabawk East on Wednesday night and recovered the drugs from a vehicle they had intercepted, said IGP (Headquarters) and Chief Information and Public Relations Officer of Mizoram Police.
A case has been registered at Bawngkawn Police Station under section 22 (c)/25 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 read with section 14 Foreigners Act, 1946.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mizoram Police seized crystal methamphetamine, worth around Rs. 31 crores from the Lengpui airport and arrested a woman, also a Myanmar national.
The arrested woman identified as Lalremthangi, works in Delhi and was smuggling the contraband from Myanmar to Delhi.
Mizoram Police have seized 57. 939 kg of heroin since January till September 30 this year and have arrested 252 people, said Police today.
During the same time period, State Police Department officials have seized 112.731 kg of Ganja (cannabis), 4.918 kg of opium and 93.701 kg of methamphetamine. 24 people have been arrested.
