With an objective to be self reliant in the production of defence equipment’s, the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) will raise the percentage of building defence equipment’s from 50 to 70 percent in the next 5-10 years which includes, building indigenous 5TH generation fighter jets.
The Secretary Department of Defence, Research and Development, and DRDO Chairman, G Satheesh Reddy, who was at a convocation programme at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Shillong today said that they are going to work on having many indigenous equipment’s as they want to be self-reliant.
Reddy also said that in the next five to ten years they want to raise the content of indigenous defence equipment to 75 percent from the current 45 to 50 percent which also includes aircraft.
Talking about the advance aviation technology, Reddy said, having acquired the knowledge for building light combat aircraft LC Mark 1 which is going through the final negotiation phase, the department is going to build LC Mark 2, an Advance Medium Combat Aircraft which will become the fifth generation fighter aircraft made in the country.
