Dokmoka mob lynching case: 47 accused produced before court; charges to be framed on Dec 1

As per the latest development, the court has fixed December 1 as the next date of hearing and charges against the accused persons will be framed.

Meanwhile the state government has appointed a special public prosecutor who made his arguments that charges be framed under Section 302 besides other sections of the Indian Penal Code.

However, one of the accused will be tried under the Juvenile Justice Board.

A total of 48 persons have been arrested by the police so far in the case, of which one is a juvenile.

It may be recalled that two youths from Guwahati, namely Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath were lynched on June 4 earlier this year by an irate mob in Karbi Anglong’s Dokmoka which shook the enitre nation.

The trial of Dokmoka incident was shifted from Diphu Court to Nagaon Court based on an order by the Gauhati High Court under case number 33/18 which was lodged at the Dokmoka Police Station.

Based on a writ petition filed by the family members of the deceased Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, the Gauhati High Court ordered for a clean and neutral investigaton into the matter and accordingly shifted the case from Karbi Anglong to Nagaon District.
