‘Doctor of Death’: Man Posing as UK Cardiologist Operates on 15, Leaves 7 Dead in MP

The NHRC is currently probing the matter to establish the facts behind the alleged medical fraud and negligence.

Sensation gripped Madhya Pradesh after a man impersonating a renowned UK-based cardiologist performed at least 15 heart surgeries at a reputed hospital in Damoh district, reportedly resulting in the deaths of seven patients. The surgeries were conducted between December 2024 and February 2025.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Narendra Yadav, falsely claimed to be Professor John Camm, a distinguished cardiologist from London. After a complaint was lodged, Yadav went missing and has remained untraceable since.

A formal complaint was filed with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in February, following which the commission initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. The NHRC is currently probing the matter to establish the facts behind the alleged medical fraud and negligence.

Local health officials, including Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Mukesh Jain and District Health Officer Dr. Vikram Chauhan, have so far confirmed at least two deaths caused due to the alleged negligence of the impostor doctor. However, multiple sources suggest that the actual number of deaths could be as high as seven.

Damoh Collector Sudhir Kochar has also confirmed that a special team has been formed to investigate the case thoroughly. “I cannot comment further until the investigation is complete,” he said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, reacting to the shocking revelations, said, “Our government is taking strict action. We never delay in taking action in such cases. I have instructed the health department to act firmly not only against the accused but also to identify and prevent similar cases in the future,” news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

The incident came to light after families who lost loved ones during surgeries at the hospital learned from media reports that a fake doctor had been operating on patients.

One of the grieving relatives, Nabi Qureshi, recounted how his 63-year-old mother, Raheesa, died following an angioplasty at the hospital. She had been admitted on January 13 after suffering a heart attack. An angiography was conducted the next day, and the angioplasty was done on January 16. During the procedure, she suffered a massive heart attack and was placed on ventilator support. She died shortly after.

“We were told she died of a heart attack, so we didn’t go for a postmortem. But later, we learned from the media that a fake doctor had performed her surgery. No one from the hospital or the administration has even spoken to us till now,” Qureshi told NDTV.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about the verification process in hospitals, as well as the lack of oversight in the health sector. Authorities continue their search for Narendra Yadav, while families await justice for their loved ones.
