At a time when Arunachal Pradesh has been grappling with flash floods for the past few weeks due to relentless heavy rains and inclement weather, a diarrhea outbreak in a village of Longding district has wreaked havoc, claiming the lives of two children while 19 others are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The diarrhea outbreak has been reported from Konsa- an interior village close to the Indo-Myanmar border in the Longding district.
The deceased children have been identified as 5-year-old Khunwang Wangsa and 7-year-old Sahwang Wangsa.
Locals alleged that the outbreak of the disease was first reported on June 15, but the situation worsened as the health officials reached the village late.
Locals said that though the outbreak of the disease was first reported on June 15, State Health Department officials reached the village only on June 18.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media Longding Medical Officer Dr Aza Miyu informed that medical teams have been sent to the village for treating the affected.
He further informed that necessary steps have been initiated to create awareness of diarrhea and how to prevent its spread.
