The sessions court of Dhemaji has convicted 6 and acquitted 8 in the 2004 Dhemaji blast case that killed 13 people and left over 40 injured.
The Assam Police had filed chargesheet against 15 persons accused to be involved in the deadly attack that took place during Independence Day celebrations in the Dhemaji College Parade Ground.
The police had recorded statements of at least 50 persons before filing the chargesheet. Of the 15 accused, one is absconding.
All 15 accused accused in the case are Jatin Duwori alias Rongmon, Leela Khan, Dipanjali Gohain, Muhi Handique, Prasanta Bhuyan, Mohan Chutia, Chandra Nath Gogoi, Homen Gogoi, Gobin Kalita, Joy Chandra Chutia, Apsara Baruah, Jaya Chutia, Jiten Chutia, Meen Baruah and Rashid Bharali.
The verdict was to be pronounced on June 20 but had to be postponed due to the sudden death of Defence counsel who died in a mysterious car accident just a day ahead of the verdict.
