The ongoing demand by the Manipur University Students’ Union for the ouster of the university Vice Chancellor further intensified after seven HOD’s of the university tendered their resignation in support of the demand.

The teachers’ body joined the students’ league for the removal of Manipur University VC Adya Prasad Pandey as the students’ body accused the VC of committing both administrative and financial irregularities.

The HOD’s tendered their resignations amidst a protest rally on Saturday last, which was jointly taken out by Manipur University Students’ Union, Manipur University Teachers’ Association and Manipur University Staff’s Association, against the VC.

However, the month-long agitation has disrupted the academic atmosphere of all the colleges affiliated to the university.

Spokesperson of the Manipuri University Teachers’ Association said the teachers’ body has submitted a memo to President of India , HRD minister, Manipur Chief Minister and Governor demanding constitution of a high- level enquiry committe to be headed by Chief Justice of High Court.

He also alleged that some tribal students have been opposing the move of the Manipuri University Teachers’ and Students’ body who have been sponsored by the Vice Chancellor.
