Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has arrived in the garrison town of Tezpur, headquarters of Indian Army’s 4 Corp which is responsible for the security along the border with China in the Arunachal sector.
The defence minister’s visit, primarily to celebrate Diwali with the Jawans, comes a day ahead of the joint patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by Indian and Chinese troops post the disengagement process in Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh.
The Indian and Chinese military commanders are scheduled to meet at the LAC in Depsang and Demchok today to verify the status of the disengagement process, sources said.
The disengagement process began after on October 21, India announced an agreement with China on patrolling along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, ending the over four-year military standoff since the Galwan clash of 2020.
On October 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China President Xi Jinping endorsed the agreement on patrolling and disengagement during their historic bilateral meeting, the first in 5 years, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan in Russia.
According to sources, the Indian soldiers need to patrol five locations in Depsang and two locations in Demchok.
In Tezpur, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be briefed by Corp Commander 4 Corp, Lt General Gmabhir Singh and in the evening he will celebrate Diwali with the jawans and enjoy Bada Khana with them.
The defence minister was to visit Tawang but it got cancelled at the last minute due to bad weather there.
