The Gauhati High Court has sought the postmortem report of the three men allegedly killed in a shootout with the Cachar police on the intervening night of July 16 and 17. The incident has generated heat after agitated locals contested the police claim that the trio were killed during a shootout. Local members of the Hmar community, to which the deceased belonged, took out protest rallies and levelled serious charges of the three men being killed during a fake encounter. The court order comes after the family members of the deceased filed a writ petition alleging that it was a case of “extra judicial execution.” They also told the court that the police asked them to take the bodies from the morgue at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
