Meghalaya witnessed high political drama today with deputy speaker of the state assembly first disclosing that Congress legislator Martin M Danggo is going to quit as MLA by evening leading to brisk political activity.

Later, Deputy Speaker Timothy Shira informed that Danggo would be quitting his post next week.

The remarks, however, sent the Congress into a tizzy with party leaders immediately getting into negotiation mode with Danggo trying to persuade him to change his decision.

In fact Congress leader PT Sawkmie told Northeast Live that the party leaders are negotiating with Danggo and that he is yet to take any call on whether to quit the party or resign as an MLA.

Ranikor MLA Martin Danggo had publicly announced last week that he will join the NPP on the day of inauguration of the Ranikor Civil Sub division. In fact Congress workers had also decided to desert the party en masse after Danggo’s announcement.

Around afternoon today, Deputy speaker to the Meghalaya legislative assembly told Northeast Live that the Ranikor MLA is all set to resign at 5pm. Deputy Speaker Shira also significantly said that some other Congress MLAs have sent fillers expressing their desire to quit the party.

Meanwhile, the remarks rang alarm bells in the Congress camp with party members initiating a negotiation with Danggo. In fact Congress’ P T Sawk-mie said that the Ranikor MLA is yet to take any decision on quitting the party.
