The fresh round of security assessments comes amid a nationwide alert in view of recent security concerns.
A day after a high-level security review meeting at his residence, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said that all necessary security measures along the India-Bangladesh border are being taken in coordination with central agencies and as per directives from top national leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
CM Saha referring to the senior officials who participated in the closed-door security review meeting said, “They had come and I told them to ensure proper security arrangements along the border and for better coordination among the forces.”
Responding to questions about the possibility of airport closures or additional security steps — similar to measures implemented in other parts of the country due to heightened threat perceptions — the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, said, “All measures recommended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister and others are being taken. They have given us clear do’s and don’ts. Instructions are coming from the Centre about which airports are to be shut and what specific security arrangements are needed. All steps are being followed accordingly.”
On the matter of threat perception, Dr. Saha cautiously remarked, “Threat may be there, but whether we are ready or not is the question,” indicating that preparedness and vigilance remain the state’s top priorities.
The security meeting held on Friday lasted for over an hour and was attended by senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, intelligence agencies, and key civil administration officers. The main focus of the meeting was enhancing surveillance and coordination along the 856-kilometre-long India-Bangladesh border that Tripura shares, parts of which remain unfenced due to local land disputes.
The fresh round of security assessments comes amid a nationwide alert in view of recent security concerns. Tripura’s geographical and strategic location, along with vulnerabilities posed by unfenced border stretches, has kept the state security machinery on high alert.
Officials indicated that increased patrolling, installation of surveillance equipment, and inter-agency coordination are being prioritized to prevent any cross-border infiltration or security breach.
While no specific threats have been made public, the state government’s proactive engagement with security forces suggests a cautious approach amidst a sensitive regional security climate.
