Cyclone Mocha’s impact on Tripura: NDRF on standby, control rooms set up

Amid the Met department forecasting heavy rains and strong winds at 50-60 kmph likely to hit Tripura tomorrow after Cyclone Mocha makes landfall in Bangladesh tomorrow morning, Tripura has set up control rooms, NDRF teams and teams from the disaster management department, civil defense, paramilitary forces, have been put on standby to respond
immediately to any emergency.
This was shared at the high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha chaired today to review the preparedness of the state government agencies in case of any eventuality.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, the Special Secretary of Revenue, officials from the Disaster Management department, the Director of the IMD, and others.
Dr Sarat Das, Project Officer of Tripura Disaster Management Authority said that the cyclone’s impact is projected to affect only four out of the eight districts in Tripura.
Das emphasized that the Disaster Management authorities have issued warning advisories to these districts, urging the district administrations to implement necessary emergency measures outlined in the disaster management plan. The objective is to minimize the potential damage caused by the cyclone.
Das further noted that according to the predictions from the IMD, the cyclone’s impact is expected to be less severe in Tripura, as its trajectory is shifting toward Myanmar.
