Curfew has been imposed in Assam from 6 PM under section 144 CrPC as a preventive measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Assam government on Sunday issued fresh guidelines in view of the lockdown extended up to May 17 as measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 epidemic.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said curfew will be imposed in all parts of Assam from 6 pm to 6 am from Monday (May 4, 2020).

Standalone shops which were allowed to remain open during daytime, had to close the shutter at 5 PM. Transport activities including plying of city buses in Guwahati came into halt around 5 PM.

The state government has asked Assam Police to strictly enforce curfew. Police has been maintaining vigil in Guwahati and different parts of the state.

Although certain relaxations have been made during the extended lockdown period, these relaxations are not applicable during curfew.

The Union home ministry has extended the nationwide lockdown for two more weeks with effect from May 4, 2020.
