Voting underway for crucial Majuli By-Elections

Voting for the crucial by-elections has begun in Majuli. The fight for the Majuli seat is between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bhuban Gam and Chittaranjan Basumatary of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP.

An estimated 1 lakh 33 thousand 227 people will cast their votes today in over 200 polling stations across the constituency. Out of them, 67,819 male and 65,408 female voters.

There are also 400 service voters, 2,965 voters between the ages of 18 and 19.

1,340 voters over the age of 80, and 400 voters in the PwD category.

It may be mentioned here that by-election in Majuli was necessitated after former Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal, who represented the constituency, assumed the office of Union Minister of Shipping and Waterways last year.
