Crackdown on rumour mongers, Meghalaya Police registers 4 FIRs for spreading fake news

At a time when the entire nation is battling the COVID-19 crisis and spreading as much awareness as possible, there are some trying to sabotage the entire process. The Meghalaya Police has launched a crackdown on such elements.

The state police has filed as many as four FIRs against rumour mongers and has also come up with its COVID-19 portal for people to register complaints and also authenticate news.

Distinguishing the truth from the not from the social media posts have become a difficult task for most of the people and combating rumour mongering, the Meghalaya police has filed four FIR’s against rumour mongers and has also come up with its COVID-19 portal for people to register complaints and also authenticate news.

Informing this, Additional Inspector general of Police – Administration GK Langrai said that considering the menace of fake news, the State police has come up with a COVID-19 portal for fake news where people can log in and register their complaint and find out whether its fake or not.

Stating that the DGP has been reviewing the situation on a daily basis, Langrai said that so far four FIR’s have been filed against individuals for circulating fake news and investigation is on. He however said that no one have been arrested so far.
