The CPI(M) in Tripura has decided to participate in the repolls scheduled to be held in 168 polling booths in the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency on May 12.
The decision was taken after their writ petition challenging the Election Commission’s decision for repolling was rejected by the Supreme Court. The decision to participate in the repolls was conveyed by Left Front convenor Bijan Dhar during a press meet in Agartala.
Dhar also added that Left Front will also seek the intervention of CEO, Tripura and Returning Officer of West Tripura for free and fair polls on May 12 with deployment of adequate security forces, arrangement of videography outside of all polling stations, proper security for all poll agents and common voters.
It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the writ petition by filed by Left Front candidate for West Tripura constituency, Sankar Prasad Dutta which demanded fresh repolls in the seat while demanding countermanding of April 11.
