A truck driver hailing from Assam’s Karimganj district who had gone to Tripura and detected positive for COVID-19 returned to his hometown by reportedly escaping quarantine.
It has been learnt that the samples of the truck driver were collected while he entered the state carrying essentials the matter was informed to the Karimganj district authorities by the Tripura police.
It may be mentioned that the individual identified as Jafrul Islam hails from Kayasthagram in Karimganj district. He was accompanied by another man.
On Friday, 30 new cases of COVID-19 were reported from the state of Tripura, 25 persons from BSF’s 86th Battalion and 4 family members from BSF’s 136th-Battalion, including a truck driver tested positive for the coronavirus.
Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced in a Tweet, “30 persons found COVID19 POSITIVE in Tripura today. 25 persons from 86th-Bn #BSF, 4 family members from 138th-Bn #BSF & 1 truck driver.”
Meanwhile, a team of health officials have left for Kayasthagram to assess the situation and take necessary precautions.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
