Mizoram has reported four cases of highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19, an official said on Friday. This is the first time that Delta variant cases have been detected in the northeastern state.
The Delta variant has been detected in four persons, all from Aizawl district, whose samples were sent along with others to the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics in West Bengal in recent months.
The patients were in the age group of 18-45 years. All the patients had travel history, while one had locally contracted the infection.
However, the patients have fully recovered from the disease.
Mizoram on Saturday reported 314 cases of COVID-19, taking the state’s tally to 16,750.
The state now has 3,816 active cases, while 12,858 people have recovered from the infection so far.
