Although the number of COVID-19 patients in Assam has been increasing day by day following the return of large number of people from other States, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday expressed hope that the situation will be normal within the next 20 days.
Talking to media persons, Sarma said that the number of people returning to Assam will decrease from June 10 to 15. If the situation of next the 20 days remain under control, the number of COVID-19 cases will come down.
He stated that around 1 lakh people have already returned to Assam. Another one lakh are likely to come in next few days.
Sarma insisted on strict quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to the community.
Meanwhile, the State health department has made all the necessary arrangements to deal with the situation.
The minister also informed that the State health department is prepared to treat 5,000 COVID-19 patients. He stated that the health department has taken necessary steps to deal with the increasing number of infected patients.
