Athgaon Kabristan Masjid in Guwahati has emerged as a hotspot for COVID-19 cases in Assam.

Speaking to media persons, Assam health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that around 100 people gathered at the mosque for a religious event on March 12.

“We have ordered Kamrup (Metro) district administration to seal the mosque. The Athgaon Kabristan Masjid will be a containment zone for next 14 days,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma mentioned that among the 100 people, 3 people later tested positive for COVID-19.

Jamaluddin from Karimganj, Jamaluddin Hazi and Rahiuddin from Dhubri were also present in the event.

“At least 8 people who returned from Nizamuddin Markaz were present in the event,” Dr. Sarma added.
