As the Assam Health Department continues to step up measures to tackle any possible outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 disease, construction work of the massive quarantine facility at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, is nearing completion.

Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited the stadium-turned-hospital to take stock of the preparations.

The quarantine facility in the biggest sports complex in the entire region will accommodate around 700 people. Visiting the site and evaluating the preparations, minister Sarma expressed satisfaction over the progress of the works.

Soon after reviewing the preparedness, Sarma said that the 700 bedded quarantine facility would be in place for the next six to nine months.

The Sports complex, which is being converted to a special facility for treating COVID-19 cases will be quarantined under proper medical supervision. People from the State who are stranded in the State borders will also be quarantined in this facility.

Though no positive case has been detected so far in Assam, the state health department under the leadership of minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been leaving no stone unturned to prevent the spread of deadly coronavirus.
