In a brazen display and abuse of power, activists of the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal attacked the convoy of top BJP leader from the Northeast and Assam Finance, Health and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh at Khejuri in Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency of the State on Tuesday evening.

A large number of TMC goons went on a rampage as the police stood mute spectators. At least two vehicles which were a part of the convoy were completely damaged in the attack while scores of motorcycles belonging to BJP workers were also vandalised.

Later, CRPF personnel whisked Sarma and other senior state BJP leaders to safety with much difficulty.

The ordeal of the BJP leaders who were a part of the convoy could be ascertained by the series of tweets that Sarma posted during the time of the incident.

Himanta Biswa Sarma through his tweets informed that TMC goons had surrounded the convoy as the West Bengal police stood as mere spectators. Sarma added that scores of BJP workers were also injured in the attack by the TMC goons.

Terming the attack on his convoy in West Bengal as murderous, Sarma also revealed that as many as three attacks were carried out by TMC goons within a short span of 45 minutes. The police, Sarma said, remained mute spectators.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also condemned the attack.

Meanwhile, the Assam BJP has also condemned the attack on Assam Finance Minister and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while condemning the attack on Himanta Biswa Sarma and Dilip Ghosh, took to Twitter and said a defeat was evident for Mamata Banerjee, which cannot be averted by acts of such kind.
