A worker employed in construction work of the new Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge was seriously injured after he was attacked by a leopard at a dredger used in bridge construction work this morning.

The injured person, identified as 20-year-old Uday Ghosh, was working near the sixth pillar of the bridge when the big cat attacked him on the dredger.

Ghosh, employed as a helper with the water resources department, sustained serious injuries in the incident.

The attack occurred at around 7 am, leaving fellow workers in shock. An eyewitness recounted the harrowing scene, saying, “I initially thought Uday was struggling with a dog-like creature. Then I realised it was a leopard. The animal attacked him, and it seemed like a desperate wrestling match as Uday tried to escape.”

The incident underscores the increasing conflict between humans and wildlife in areas of rapid development. Authorities are yet to comment on how the leopard entered the construction site. Ghosh has been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
