Conserving the Mithun: Mithun Mela, To Promote Healthy Mithun Farming, Organized In Arunachal’s Bichom District

The Mithun Mela served as a platform for knowledge-sharing and community collaboration, reinforcing the importance of scientific research.

A Mithun Mela focused on the conservation and development of Mithun through semi-intensive farming was successfully organised at Dibbin village, Nafra in Arunachal Pradesh.

Local MLA Dongru Siongju, along with Dr. Kobu Khate (Chief Technical Officer) and scientists Harshit Kumar and Plabita Goswami, led the initiative. The team vaccinated, tagged, and collected blood samples from over 80 Mithuns, gathering essential data on genetic growth and health.

The Mithun Mela served as a platform for knowledge-sharing and community collaboration, reinforcing the importance of scientific research in livestock management.

MLA Siongju expressed gratitude to the scientific team and the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Bomdila, for their commitment. He emphasised that such initiatives will contribute to a brighter and more prosperous future for the region’s farmers.

The event was conducted by ICAR-National Research Centre in Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland, with participation from scientists and local officials.
