Conrad Sangma speaks on coal mining, Shillong violence during R-day address

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma on Repulic Day informed that his government inaugurated as many as 300 projects this year. CM Sangma also spoke on the burning issue of illegal coal mining and the recent communal violence in Shillong.

At a time when reports of violence in Shillong are drawing sharp reactions, CM Sangma urged people to respect each other.

Shillong witnessed a series of assaults on the non-tribals in the past few days. People from different walks of life have condemned such incidents with an elderly couple staging a sit-in protest as well.

A few days back Senior Trinamool Congress leader and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma lashed out at the Conrad Sangma-led government in the state for allegedly turning a blind eye to the rampant illegal mining of coal in Garo Hills.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has maintained that strict directives have been issued to all the district administrations and police authorities to keep a close tab and act accordingly on illegal mining and transportation of coal.

In regards to illegal coal mining, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had urged everyone aware of such activities to report them to the government, which will definitely be looked into by the competent authorities.
