The Bharatiya Janata Party backed by the Congress formed the new Chakma Autonomous District Council government in Mizoram. The BJP is backed by the six elected Congress council members.
Vice president of state BJP Judy Zohmingliani said that the Congress council members has backed the United Legislature Party formed jointly by the BJP and Congress elected members.
However, the BJP is not literally allying with the Congress party but have a common ideology of forming the council. The vice president maintained that the Congress members extended support to the BJP expressing faith on the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi.
The election to the 20 member council was held on April 20 where results for 19 seats were declared on April 25. Out of these 19, the Mizo National Front won eight seats, the Congress stood second in the tally with six seats and the BJP won 5 seats.
