Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi initiates process for appointment of Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the next CJI by writing a letter to the Centre recommending Justice Bobde as his successor.

This is the process followed by all outgoing Chief Justices to send the recommendation ahead of their retirement.

Justice Gogoi has written a letter to the Ministry of Law and Justice recommending second senior-most judge, Justice SA Bobde to be the next chief justice.

Justice Gogoi, who was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India on October 3, 2018, will demit the office on November 17.
