Manipur: Prominent names in fray for poll battle in 6 constituencies of Churachadpur District

With Manipur poll dates being announced the intending candidates are gearing up for the electoral fights. With 6 seats in the fray, Churachandpur District will be going to the polls in the first phase of the elections, which is on the 27th of February. The seats include Churachandpur, Saikot , Singngat, Thanlon, Tipaimukh, and Henglep.

First of all, Churachandpur Assembly Constituency is likely to have six contenders. The prominent names include sitting MLA V. Hangkhanlian and former Manipur DGP LM Khaute who recently stepped down as the DGP to contest in the upcoming elections. Other candidates include ex- MDC, H Mangchinchup, Former editor of Lamka Post daily T .Thangzalian, Retired Manipur Rifle officer LC Thang and James Khuma Haujel an evangelist who recently returned from China.

Meanwhile, possible contenders from Saikot include Senior Congress leader and sitting MLA T N Haokip, BJP Churachandpur Mandal President and former Churachandpur ADC Chairman Khaipao Haokip, Dr. Goerge T Haokip, and Paulienlal Haokip. Singngat AC is likely to be contested by 4 equally strong contenders, sitting BJP MLA GS Haupu, JD(U) Manipur President, T Hangkhanpau, UZO President, Chinlunthang, and former CCPur BJP leader Khaibiaklian.

Thanlon AC will witness a triangular fight among three prospective candidates including Incumbent Tribal Affairs Minister Vungzagin Valte, ex MDC and former Churachandpur ADC Chairman Langkhanpau, and Khanthang Tonsing, son of former senior Congress leader Phungzathang Tonsing.

As for Tipaimukh AC, names of candidates likely in the fray include senior Congress leader Dr. Chaltonlien Amo who today defected to the BJP. Two more intending candidates Thangthatling and Ngursanglur sons of senior politicians from the District were eying for a BJP party ticket but with the induction of Amo by the BJP things are uncertain for the duo.

Lastly, Henglep will witness the candidature of four contenders including senior Congress leader T Manga Vaiphei who has been elected MLA four times from Henglep, former MLA Letzamang Haokip, Nehminthang Haokip, and Thangzalam Haokip.
