India has requested China to supply it with satellite data on floods in India to assist it in flood relief efforts.
China’s India ambassador Sun Weidon tweeted on Friday that on ISRO’s request for international disaster relief, China has provided India with satellite data on India’s flood hit regions to assist its flood relief efforts.
In response, official spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that due to the heavy floods in India, the charter was activated on July 17 by the National Remote Sensing Centre. On sharing of satellite data for relief efforts, the NRSC represents ISRO as a member of the International Charter Space and Major Disasters.
The Charter has been set up under the UN-SPIDER. By combining earth observation assets form different space agencies, the charter allows resources and expertise to be coordinated for rapid response to major disaster situations.
