China and PLA’s activities constantly monitored: GOC-in-C Eastern Command Lt Gen RP Kalita

RP Kalita said today in the backdrop of China renaming 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh and trying to stake claim on territory that is an integral part of India.

India is keeping a close watch on China’s movements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Army’s GOC-in-C Eastern Command Lt Gen. RP Kalita said today in the backdrop of China renaming 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh and trying to stake claim on territory that is an integral part of India.

Briefing newspersons, on the sidelines of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Headquarters 101 Area of the Indian Army in Shillong, Lt Gen RP Kalita said, “What China is doing, what the PLA is doing that is being constantly monitored. Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India that has been clearly stated in various articulation that has come out from our government.”

Lt Gen RP Kalita also that the situation so far has been stable across the LAC since a year. He said, “Last 1 year we have seen a stable security situation along the northern borders as well as in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. However, we are constantly monitoring the situation and our armed forces are prepared to deal with any contingencies that may arise along the northern borders.”

Kalita maintained that whenever there is an escalation between both the sides, it is being resolved on the basis of the 5 agreements in place between the Indian Army and the Chinese PLA and other existing protocols and laid down provisions.

Besides, LT Gen Kalita also highlighted the significance of the Vibrant Village programme and said, “Vibrant Village programme is for infrastructure development in our own country. What we are trying to do or our nation is trying to do, is have a comprehensive package for infrastructure development, to ensure that the connectivity to the forward areas is improved and also the villagers who are living in those remote areas are also given the facility that are existing in the plains or other developed areas.”

The Eastern Command GOC-in-C also maintained that there has been definite development in the security situation in the Northeast which has led to several developmental projects taking place in Northeast as a whole. He added that there is a yearning for peace among the population.

Speaking on the issue of influx of Myanmarese population into states like Mizoram and Manipur, Lt Gen RP Kalita said, “Our job is to ensure that nobody with arms come into our country and all the unarmed people are given shelter by the respective state governments in these areas and as and when the war ends they will be pushed back to their own territory.”
