In a tragic incident, 10 people were killed on the NH8 connecting Assam and Tripura road, this morning. Among the 10, 9 died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries later. They have all been identified as Duja Bai Panika, Chanu Rai Panika, Gaurav Das Panika, Sambhu Panika, Lalan Goswami, Puja Gaur, Dev Gaur, Shanu Ray, Mangli Karmakar, Tupu Karmakar.

The incident took place in the Boithakhal area of Karimganj, Assam, after a vehicle collided with a cement laden truck. The passengers were travelling after performing the rituals of Chhath Puja.

Assam Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his condolences on the whole incident. He also informed that efforts were underway to apprehend the driver of the truck.

Taking to the twitter, CM Sarma wrote “I deeply mourn tragic death of 9 persons in an accident at Baitakhal, Patharkhandi this morning. One injured is admitted to hospital. @assampolice is trying to trace driver of the truck who had fled the scene after hitting the auto deceased were travelling in. Condolences.”

Transport Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary, also extended his condolences to members of the bereaved families & prayed to almighty for eternal their peace of the departed souls.
