Cancel recruitment to the 2,596 GDS posts: JACPDF CM Khandu

The Joint Action Committee for Postal Department Fiasco (JACPDF) in Arunachal Pradesh has requested Chief Minister Pema Khandu to cancel the recruitments done for the 2,596 gramin dak sevak (GDS) posts and take immediate action over the alleged misallocation of jobs in the postal department.

The JACPDF (comprising of 12 civil society organisations) claims that the 2,596 gramin dak sevak (GDS) posts sanctioned for 866 branch post offices across the state are being occupied by the non-APSTs although all the posts are for the state quota.

The committee has urged Chief Minister Pema Khandu to make domicile or proof of residence certificate mandatory, as per the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, and the Chin Hills Act, 1896, for recruitment to GDS and BPM posts in the state.

The committee has also urged inclusion of knowledge of any local dialect of 26 major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh as some criteria for selection.

JACPDF said that the posts are being filled by non-APSTs despite the fact that all the posts are meant specifically for the locals of the state.

Therefore, JACPDF has been demanding the cancellation of all non-APST appointees for both the GDS and BPM posts.

Earlier the committee had submitted a 15-day ultimatum to the superintendent of postal services, Itanagar, but no response had been received yet.
