C.H. Vijayashankar Sworn In As Meghalaya Governor

Two-time Mysuru MP and former minister of Karnataka, C.H. Vijayashankar, 67,was sworn in as the Governor of Meghalaya today.

He was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice S. Vaidyanathan at Raj Bhavan in Shillong.

He replaced incumbent Governor Phagu Chauhan.

After taking the oath of office, the new Governor spoke about the growing concern related to the demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

On asking if he would take the matter up with the centre, the new Governor said, “I am aware of the issues in the state. Keeping in mind all these issues, let us try to do and give justice to them.”

He said that he has no personal or political agenda as his focus is on the development of the state and that he will move forward taking the local government with him.

“Will keep the personality of Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in mind while moving in the path of development of Meghalaya,” the Governor said.

The new Governor said that his top priority with be the development of the state and he will take the state government into confidence in his endeavour to become the people ‘s Governor.
