By-elections in four legislative assembly constituencies in Assam ended peacefully with an estimated 75% aggregate turnout recorded till 5 pm.
Bypolls in Assam were held in Ratabari, Sonari, Rangapara and Jania following the election of the MLAs to the Lok Sabha in the general elections.
While the estimated turnout at Jania till 5pm was 78.21%, 74.37 per cent in Ratabari, 67% in Sonari, while an estimated 77.5% voters exercised their franchise in Rangapara.
The final turnout is expected to increase, the Assam State Election Commission said.
The elections were peaceful with no untoward incident reported from any of the LACs. Enthusiast voters were seen queuing up outside polling booths from early morning hours to exercise their franchise.
Counting of votes will be held from 8 am on Oct 24.
