Bullet Meant To Scare Away Elephants Hits Man in Assam’s Numaligarh

The injured person has been identified as Lakhan Gowala.

The man-elephant conflict took an ugly turn in Assam’s Numaligarh when a man was injured after a bullet fired by forest officials, aimed at driving away a herd of elephants, hit him.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Porabangla, Numaligarh.

The injured person has been identified as Lakhan Gowala.

The forest department was engaged in blank firing to disperse the elephants that had entered human settlements and were damaging paddy fields.

The bullet grazed Lakhan’s left eye, narrowly missing it, and he is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Earlier, on October 29, forest guards accidentally injured two people in Assam’s Nalbari and Hojai.

In Nalbari, a Class 6 student was hit by a bullet intended for wild elephants.

The second incident took place in Hojai. A woman was injured in Lumding Reserve Forest in Hojai district when 5 patrolling forest guards opened fire on a group of women gathering firewood.
