Elections to the Bodo Territorial Council are likely to be held in December.
A crucial all-party meeting was held at the Administrative Staff College in Guwahati today to discuss the possibility of holding the elections to the district council in December.
The meeting was chaired by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and was attended by Assam Ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary and Atul Bora.
Leaders of different political parties including, Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania, UPPL’s Pramod Boro, BPPF’s Rabiram Narzary, AIUDF’s Aminul Islam, Congress’ Durga Das Boro, AGP’s Keshab Mahanta, CPI-M’s Deben Bhattacharya and BJP’s Jayanta Das took part in the meeting.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that both the Government and the Opposition must work together to serve the people of the State.
While, the opposition parties have demanded for elections to the BTC at the earliest, Assam Minister Chandramohan Patowary has informed that the issue of polls to the BTR will be discussed in the cabinet meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
