The Tibetan Women’s Association currently visiting Sikkim has appealed to the International Olympics Committee and athletes worldwide to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in China.
Members of the Central Executive Committee of Tibetan Women’s Association, all the way from Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala, arrived here to create awareness on their campaign – No to the Winter Olympics 2022 in China due to alleged violation of Human Rights.
The members met Rajya Sabha MP Hissey Lachungpa on Monday and are looking forward to meeting Minister for Forest Karma Loday and MP Lok Sabha Indra Hang Subba with their Five-point appeal.
They also appealed to the Indian Government to resume dialogue between His Holiness The Dalai Lama and the Chinese Government.
“We appeal to Government of India to arrange for resuming Sino-Indian dialogue between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Chinese leadership, based on the Middle Way approach, for resolving the issue of Tibet,” said Tenzing Dolma, President Central Tibetan Women’s Association, addressing the media here in the Gangtok.
They also appealed to the Government of India to intervene and secure the release of Panchen Lama who has been missing for more than two decades.
‘Help is required from Government of India in arranging the release of 11th Panchen Lama missing for 26 years, Environment care avoiding the adverse impact of development projects in Tibet, protection of Religious freedom of Tibetans in Tibet and against violation of Human Rights, ‘she added.
The Association having visited Darjeeling, Kalimpong will now head towards Shillong, Arunachal Pradesh and Salugarah, Siliguri with their appeal.
They expressed happiness at the news that US President Joe Biden has also refused to send players to Beijing Olympics.
