Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia on Friday said that his government is ready to face any lawsuit over charges of encroachment of Assam’s territory. The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks came as a rebuttal to Assam government’s claims of Mizoram encroaching into its areas.
Mr Tawnluia also denied allegations of encroachment and claimed that the government has all the valid documents to substantiate its claims.
Tawnluia, who headed the boundary commission constituted by the state government last week, said the commission will deal with the boundary issue and its decision on issues related to the state border with neighbouring states would be final.
He also said that his government accepts the 509 square miles stretch of the inner line reserve forest notified in 1875 under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873 as the actual boundary between Mizoram and Assam.
It may be mentioned that the Assam government considers the 1933 boundary notification as the constitutional boundary with Mizoram.
