Border Haat along India-Bangladesh border reopens after 3 years

Vendors from both countries expressed happiness at the resumption of the border haat’s functions after a prolonged closure
One of the two ‘Border Haats’ (markets) along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura has reopened for trading after being closed for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The resumption of trading attracted a significant number of vendors, buyers, and officials from both countries, who are hopeful that the business will expand.
On the opening day of the Srinagar (India)-Chhagal Naiya (Bangladesh) border haat in South Tripura district, district officials from South Tripura and Bangladesh’s Feni districts were present.
The Additional District Magistrate and Collector of South Tripura district, Dhanbabu Reang, along with Bangladesh’s Feni District’s Additional District Magistrate, Abhishek Das, announced that the ‘Border Haat’ would operate every Tuesday.
The border market will feature 27 vendors from each side, including women, while 1,200 buyers from both India and Bangladesh will be permitted to enter the ‘Border Haat’ after verifying their government identity cards.
Vendors from both countries expressed their happiness at the resumption of the border haat’s functions after a prolonged closure.
