BJP’s Dorjee Tshering Lepcha files nomination for RS seat from Sikkim

BJP’s Rajya Sabha Candidate from Sikkim, MLA Dorjee Tshering Lepcha today filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections in the presence of ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha chief and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Lepcha submitted his nomination papers to the returning officer in the assembly premises.

BJP state unit president DR Thapa were present on the occasion.

Election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Sikkim will be held on January 19.

While speaking to Northeast Live, DT Lepcha said, “It’s a first time in history that the state Chief Minister itself was present while filing the nomination for Rajya Sabha MP. And also it’s the first time that such an event is happening in Sikkim.”

Lepcha praised the SKM party and promised to support the strategies and initiatives handled by the SKM government to the fullest.

Lepcha said, “Once I become an MP, we will raise all pending concerns of state in Parliament. Additionally, we will also visit to Union ministers and discuss all issues. I’ll work with my team to get whatever documentation we need to back up our claims.

Tshering, who is presently the MLA of Gnathan Machong constituency, is a five times MLA and also a three time minister.

Tshering was elected to the Sikkim Assembly for the first time in 1994 from Sang constituency.

He won the seat by representing Sikkim Sangram Parishad. In the 2019 polls, he won the election from Gnathang Machong constituency on SDF ticket.

However, he later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
