‘Corrected NRC’: BJP manifesto makes 10 commitments for Assam’s ‘big leap’

Releasing the Bharatiya Janata Party’s manifesto ahead of the Assam Assembly polls in Guwahati, party National President JP Nadda made 10 commitments to help Assam take the next ‘big leap’ in the coming five years.

The commitments of the party include providing three lakh jobs to the youth, financial support to Namghar’s and to correct National Register of Citizens’ (NRC) for Assam’s protection.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and state Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present at the event.

Here's the list of ten commitments made in the manifesto:
  • ‘Mission Brahmaputra’, under which big reservoirs will be built around the Brahmaputra river to conserve extra water and save people from the impact of floods.
  • Under Orunodoi Scheme, 30 lakh deserving families will be paid financial support of Rs 3,000 per month.
  • The BJP also committed to stop illegal encroachments and promised to pay Rs 2.5 lakh as financial support for all Namghars.
  • Mission Shishu Unnayan, under which BJP is committed to providing quality education to all children in government institutions. Bicycles to girl students from Class 8 onwards.
  • To safeguard genuine Indian citizens and detect infiltrators, BJP government to work on a ‘corrected NRC’ for Assam’s protection.
  • Protect Assam’s political rights by speeding up the delimitation process.
  • ‘Assam Aahar Aatmanirbharta’ initiative to make the state self-sufficient.
  • The manifesto promised to ensure job opportunities for the youth and proposed to make the state the fastest job creator in the country.
  • Promotion of entrepreneurship, under Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment scheme. Two lakh youths to be supported as entrepreneurs every year for the next five years.
  • The party also promised to support more landless people through ‘patta’ system.

Elections for the 126-seat Assam Legislative Assembly are scheduled to take place in three phases from March 27 to April 6.
