BJP leader Dilip Kumar Paul has resigned as the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Paul in a facebook post after resigning said he has quit the post as he was feeling stifled due to protocol issues involved with the position of Deputry Speaker.

Meanwhile, Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami has confirmed that his office has received the resignation letter of Deputy Speaker Dilip Paul. Goswami said that a decision on the same would be taken tomorrow.

Paul further mentioned that he felt like being in a jail. Paul added he had informed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal 18 months ago about his plan and that he has been trying leave the post from quite sometime now.
