Hours after N Biren Singh stepped down as the Manipur Chief Minister, the Bharatiya Janata Party high command has called a crucial meeting on February 12 which will take a final call on the next Chief Minister of Manipur.

All BJP MLAs of Manipur have been called to New Delhi to attend the meeting on February 12. According to sources, ten Kuki MLAs may also attend the meeting in New Delhi.

However, there is no confirmation in this regard yet. But it is almost certain that the new Manipur Chief Minister may get announced on February 12 following the crucial meeting.

With Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigning on Sunday, finalising his replacement is the next big task for the BJP. The party’s central leadership may buy time for evolving a consensus for it, sources said.
According to a statement from the Raj Bhavan in Imphal, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has asked N Biren Singh to continue in office till “alternative arrangements” are made.

Hours after Biren resigned, Governor Bhalla issued a notification declaring the previous order summoning the Assembly, which was set to convene on Monday (February 10), “null and void”.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, hereby order that the previous directive to summon the 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, which has yet to commence, is hereby declared null and void with immediate effect,” according to a notice.
