Tension continues to prevail in Assam’s Batadrava after an angry mob torched an police station on Saturday. Following the incident, the Officer-in-Charge of the police station in question has been suspended and the other police officials of the station have also been transferred.

OC Kumud Gogoi has been suspended for failing to carry out his duties in the face of the attack by the mob. Meanwhile, the rest of the officials of the station who are on duty during the attack have been put on reserved clause.

A new police team has been appointed at the police station to take matters in their hands. Violent scenes were witnessed in Batadrava yesterday after a mob of close to 500 people took the law in their hands.

The mob gheraoed the police station and burned it down. They also allegedly thrashed the police personnel on duty. The situation occurred after a fish seller identified as Safikul Islam was reportedly picked up by police in a drugged state. However, Islam passed away while in the custody.
