In a swift breakthrough, Badarpur police have arrested the bus driver and one accomplice in connection with the alleged gangrape attempt on a young girl inside a moving bus in Assam’s Sribhumi district on Tuesday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jashim Uddin Laskar, the bus driver from Panchgram, and Abu Salam, a passenger from Silchar.
Following the incident, police launched a probe and examined CCTV footage from the area.
Initially, 5 suspected buses were detained for verification. After a thorough investigation, authorities identified the bus bearing registration number AS-24C-6111 as the one involved in the crime.
Acting swiftly, police arrested Jashim Uddin Laskar and Abu Salam and efforts are ongoing to track down other suspects who were allegedly involved in the crime.
A case has been registered at Badarpur Police Station under relevant sections of the law.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered massive protests across Sribhumi, with several organisations and residents demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators.
Police have assured that the investigation is being carried out with urgency, and no accused will be spared.
The horrific incident took place when the victim was travelling on the bus. She had boarded the bus from Badarpurghat, heading towards Chargola, when the accused, including the driver and three other men, allegedly tried to rape her.
When she resisted their attempts, the accused forcibly threw her off the moving vehicle.
Locals later found her critically injured on the roadside and immediately rushed her to a hospital for medical treatment.
She is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.
