The decision to denounce the agreement has been taken as it was allegedly signed without consulting the Executives of ATSUM and the federating units.

A day after the release of its leaders, the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) has decided to denounce the agreement signed by the Union and its confederating units with the Manipur Government on August 7 on the impasse over the HAC recommended Manipur Hill Areas Autonomous District Councils Bill 2021.

The decision to denounce the agreement has been taken as it was allegedly signed without consulting the Executives of ATSUM and the federating units.

The ATSUM also suspended its Vice President V Khaute for allegedly taking the arbitrary decision.

Meanwhile, the arrested leaders of ATSUM were released from judicial custody on Tuesday after the Manipur Government and ATSUM reached an agreement earlier in the day wherein the union agreed to lift the economic blockade.

The ATSUM leaders who were released from the Shajiwa jail yesterday are union president Paotinthang Lupheng, Andria Sinruwang, Khaiminlen Doungel, Marankhai Awungshi, and John H Pulamte.

They were picked by Imphal West Police on August 2 morning ahead of its proposed bandh called to press for tabling and passing of the Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill, 2021, recommended by the Hill Areas Committee.
