It has been a big day for the BJP with the party retaining power in as many as 4 states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.
The BJP has returned to power in Manipur with the party touching the magic mark in an election fought on the agenda of peace and development.
The BJP has won and is leading in as many as 32 seats, while the NPP has secured 8 seats and the NPF 5. The Congress has been nearly decimated in the state with just 4 seats to its name so far. The JD-U has sprung a surprise by winning as many as 5 seats and is leading in 1 while Independents are ahead in the rest.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who beat his Congress rival P Sharatchandra by a whopping 18,271 votes from the Heingang seat, stated that the BJP will form a government on its own. In a significant statement, CM N Biren said that the NPP will not be a part of the next government. The Manipur Chief Minister also indicated that the NPF will continue to be in alliance with the BJP.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh won from the Thoubal seat while it was a major disappointment for the NPP with Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh losing from Uripok by over 900 votes. Former Manipur DGP LM Khaute beat BJP’s V Hangkhanlian in the Churachandpur seat.
