Sarma urged people to embrace eco-friendly modes of transport to contribute to a cleaner environment.
In a unique initiative to promote a pollution-free India, 26-year-old Himangshu Sarma from Assam’s Bajali district cycled an arduous 1,100 km to Jharkhand.
Sarma, who is from Titka village in Pathsala town in the Bajali district, began his journey in Bajali and cycled via West Bengal and Bihar, culminating at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple in Jharkhand on July 26, 2024.
Sarma’s journey coincided with the holy month of Shravan (This month is marked by the worship of Lord Shiva), a time when millions of devotees visit the temple.
Amidst the religious celebrations, he aimed to spread an important message about the growing air pollution crisis and the significance of sustainable transportation.
“Traffic congestion is a major contributor to air pollution, which has severe consequences for our health and well-being. People are overly reliant on bikes and cars, but we need to curtail this habit for our own good. Cycling is not only a great way to reduce pollution but also beneficial for personal health,” he said.
Sarma urged people to embrace eco-friendly modes of transport to contribute to a cleaner environment.
