Assam DGP GP Singh has confirmed about the development
A youth in his early 30s has been arrested from Eastern Assam’s Sivasagar district for issuing a death threat to Assam cabinet minister Atul Bora. DGP GP Singh has confirmed the development in a post on X.
The Assam DGP said, “Nip Pratim Baruah (age-31yrs.), S/O- Sri Haren Baruah, Vill.- Bamun Moran Gaon, PS- Gaurisagar, Dist.- Sivasagar has been picked up for the Facebook post threatening the Hon Minister. The detention is based on substantial evidence.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, reacting to the threat issued to minister Atul Bora said, “Some people kill me (give threats) to me everyday, we are working so they will be targetting us. But everything is happening in social media, nobody has the guts to come infront and kill.”
The purported threat of a bomb in the quarter of Minister Bora was made in the comment section of the Facebook page of a local news portal. Soon after this the police had swung into action with DGP GP Singh stating that Assam CID has been directed to register a criminal case and probe the matter.
“No such threat would be acceptable against elected representatives as it threatens the democratic polity,” the Assam DGP had said.
