There seems to be no let up in crimes against women even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. A sanitation worker employed in a private nursing home in Assam’s Cachar district was allegedly gang-raped by three persons while she was returning home from work following a night shift on the wee hours of Sunday.
The victim, in the FIR, said while she was on her way home was pursued by one of the culprits for lift on his bike near NIT campus. However, instead of dropping her home, the biker took a wrong turn and later he along with two others raped her, sources informed.
The woman said in the FIR that the three persons hailed from her village.
The woman, a widow, immediately filed a police complaint after friends and relatives rescued her from the spot.
Incidentally, while undergoing medical examination she was found to be Covid positive.
Meanwhile, police have managed to arrest the three culprits. Of the three accused, two have been identified as Kanhai Lal Goala and Mahesh Goala.
The arrested persons were produced at a local court which sent them to judicial custody.
